You Can’t Control Your Mind
If you could control your mind, you wouldn’t think of a pink elephant right now.
And yet, there it is (most likely).

The mind drifts, wanders, replays, imagines, worries — all on its own.
You can’t stop a thought from appearing any more than you can stop the wind from moving a curtain.
It’s simply what the mind does.
You don’t choose to remember the conversation from last year or the argument that still echoes. You don’t decide to picture the worst‑case scenario when the present is uncertain.
These things happen because the mind is an active storyteller, constantly trying to make sense of what’s passed and prepare for what might come.
But you don’t have to believe everything it says. You don’t have to follow every thought where it wants to go.
You can let thoughts move through like the weather; sometimes rainy, sometimes sunny, but still happening in the here and now.
When your mind starts time-travelling, you can come back.
Place your feet on the floor.
Feel the chair holding you up.
Notice the sound of your breathing.
Notice what you can see, touch, and hear.
Each small noticing is an act of returning. A quiet reminder that you don’t live inside your thoughts.
You live here, in this moment.
Healing doesn’t mean having a silent mind. It means learning to meet your thoughts with steadiness, curiosity, and compassion.
